This FAQ provides a comprehensive overview of the Grandstream GHP6xx hotel phone series, covering all models, including GHP61x/W, GHP62x/W, and GHP63x/W. It explains key features, installation procedures, networking options, telephony functions, and advanced utilities available across the product line. Use this document as a reference for understanding, deploying, and managing GHP6xx devices in hotel and hospitality environments.


Product Overview & Features

The GHP6xx lineup includes six models: GHP610(W), GHP611(W), GHP620(W), GHP621(W), GHP630(W), and GHP631(W).
The GHP61x/62x models are compact trim-style phones without a screen, while the GHP63x models include a 3.5” color LCD. All models offer hotel-focused features such as 2 SIP accounts, programmable keys, HD audio, and integration with GDMS for centralized provisioning.

GHP61x/62x phones are simple, keypad-only units designed for basic hotel deployments.
GHP63x/W devices add a 3.5” color LCD, context-sensitive softkeys, Wi-Fi 6 (W models), factory function menus, sleep mode, and contact access via shortcuts.
Functionally, both groups support the same SIP accounts, codecs, VoIP capabilities, and call features, except for the call conference, this feature is not supported on the GHP63x series.

All devices support wideband HD audio with key technologies such as Opus, G.722, VAD, AEC, PLC, AGC, and an advanced jitter-resilience algorithm. This ensures clear audio even in poor network conditions, tolerating up to 30% packet loss without noticeably affecting call quality.

Each GHP6xx device provides 2 SIP accounts and 2 lines.
Hotels commonly configure one account for both making and receiving calls (guest dialing, room service, reception), while the second account is reserved for internal incoming calls (e.g., wake-up calls or automated announcements). Only administrators can change the default active account.

All models include 10 speed-dial keys, which hotels typically label for services like Housekeeping, Reception, Laundry, Concierge, etc.
Programmable keys vary by model:

  • GHP61x: 3 programmable keys
  • GHP62x: 6 programmable keys
  • GHP63x: 6 programmable keys + customizable softkeys on the LCD

These keys can trigger extensions, services, or special hotel functions based on administrator configuration.

Wireless models support:

  • GHP610W/611W/620W/621W: 2.4 GHz & 5 GHz dual-band 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac
  • GHP630W/631W: 2.4 GHz & 5 GHz dual-band Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax)
    All wireless devices are preconfigured to auto-connect to the default SSID wp_master with password wp!987@dmin for easy deployment.

All models integrate with GDMS (Grandstream Device Management System), this allows administrators to:

  • Provision devices remotely
  • Push configuration templates
  • Monitor device status
  • Schedule firmware upgrades
  • Manage hotel-wide phone deployments from a single interface
    This significantly simplifies mass installations in hotels or large buildings.

Non-W models (GHP610/611/620/621/630/631): Powered by PoE over the LAN port.

W models: Powered by a 12V adapter, and GHP620(W)/621(W)/630(W)/631(W) also support USB-C.
Having multiple powering methods allows flexible placement, especially in guest rooms where Ethernet ports may not be available.

Thanks to their compact footprint and customizable labeling, these phones also fit perfectly in hospitals, dormitories, senior living facilities, apartments, and any environment that needs simple and reliable room-based communication.

All models offer a Waiting Message Indicator (green blinking) for voicemail and a red mute LED when the microphone is muted.
GHP63x devices additionally show on-screen pop-ups for missed calls, waiting messages, call status, and softkey prompts, giving guests clearer and more modern feedback.


Installation, Wall Mounting & Powering

GHP61x/W packages include: the phone, handset, RJ11 phone cord, base, Quick Installation Guide, and a 12V power adapter for W models.
GHP62x/W packages include: the phone, handset, base stand, two faceplates (black and windows), cardstock for labeling, RJ9 phone cord, Quick Installation Guide, and a power adapter for W versions.
All contents should be verified upon receipt before installation begins.

GHP63x/W units follow the same concept as other models: mark two holes 100 mm apart vertically, drill, add anchors and screws, then mount the device using its rear slots.

To wall-mount a GHP61x/W, mark two horizontal holes spaced 100 mm apart, drill, insert plastic anchors, and secure screws with enough space to slide in the phone using its wall-mount slots.
For GHP62x/W, the same 100 mm spacing applies vertically, but you must also attach the included wall-mount spacers before sliding the phone onto the screws.

Attach the base stand into the designated slot on the bottom of the unit, connect the handset cord to the phone, attach the Ethernet cable if applicable, and finally supply power using either PoE or the power adapter depending on the phone model. Desktop installation requires no additional tools.

All W models come preconfigured to automatically attempt connection to the default SSID “wp_master” using the password “wp!987@dmin”, ensuring plug-and-play provisioning. Administrators may later change SSID, password, band, or Wi-Fi mode via the Web UI or factory function menu (GHP63x/W).

Non-W models such as GHP610, GHP611, GHP620, GHP621, GHP630, and GHP631 do not include power adapters and rely exclusively on PoE (Power over Ethernet) via their RJ45 port. This allows a single cable to handle both network and power, simplifying in-room installations.

GHP630 and GHP631 can be powered solely through PoE.
GHP630W and GHP631W may use either PoE or a 12V DC adapter, giving hotels flexibility during deployment. These models also include a USB Type-C port for powering external devices (up to 500 mA).

Yes. Wireless configurations allow W models across the lineup to operate with no Ethernet at all, relying exclusively on dual-band Wi-Fi for connectivity. The LAN port remains usable if wired fallback is preferred.

Installers should inspect the package contents for missing components, check for a suitable power source (PoE or adapter), ensure screws and anchors (not included) are available for wall-mounting, and confirm that the Wi-Fi SSID or Ethernet network is ready for provisioning.

The installer should confirm that the device is receiving power—either by verifying PoE from the switch or checking the 12V adapter. If using Wi-Fi, ensuring the phone is associated with the correct SSID and password is also crucial. A lack of power or network connection is the most common cause of setup issues.


Networking, Web Configuration & Factory Functions

To access the Web UI, connect a computer to the same network as the phone and enter https://<MAC>.local in a browser, replacing <MAC> with the phone’s MAC address from its bottom label or packaging.
For GHP63x devices, users may also press HOLD + 0 to view the phone’s IP address and access the Web UI directly through https://<IP address>.

The Web UI uses admin as the default username, while the password is a randomized, unique code printed on a sticker located at the back of each device. This enhances security and prevents unauthorized access during deployment.

Dialing **47# causes the phone to audibly announce its IP address. If both IPv4 and IPv6 are available, IPv4 is read by default. Users may also specify IPv4 with **474# or IPv6 with **476#.

The phone includes a 3-second input timeout, meaning if the user dials **47 and pauses, the phone automatically triggers the same function as **47#, making keypad use easier and faster for guests or technicians.

The “Key As Send” option under Account → Call Settings must be set to the Pound (#) key. Without this setting, users must dial **47 and wait for the timeout instead of using # to send immediately.

The GHP63x/W includes an internal Factory Functions menu accessed by pressing HOLD + 2. This menu provides diagnostic tests, audio loopback, LCD inspection, Wi-Fi configuration (W models), certificate verification, and the option to perform a factory reset directly from the phone.

Press HOLD + 0, then navigate using the right-arrow key. The phone displays information such as MAC address, serial number, hardware version, part number, software version, and security version. This is especially useful for troubleshooting or inventory management.

Yes. Dial **67*{keypad password}# to reset only the network parameters (IP, gateway, DNS, etc.). This is useful when the phone is moved to a new network environment without requiring a full factory reset.

Note: The IVR commands are suited for GHP61x/GHP62x models only.

Dial **84*{keypad password}*{VLAN ID}# to assign a VLAN ID between 0–4094. Using VLAN ID “0” disables VLAN tagging. This allows hotel IT teams to quickly segment VoIP traffic for better network management.

You can trigger firmware updates with:

  • **38*{password}# (uses the existing configured firmware server)
  • **38*{password}*{server IP}# (directs the phone to a specific upgrade server)
    These commands allow updates even when Web UI access is limited.

Yes. The phones support TFTP, HTTP, HTTPS, FTP, and FTPS.
To select one, dial **28x# for configuration downloads or **38x# for firmware upgrades, where “x” represents the protocol number (1–5). The phone will announce the selected protocol once applied.

When using Direct IP Calling, the “Use Random Port” setting under Basic Settings must be set to No, ensuring the phone uses predictable SIP ports. This allows direct peer-to-peer communication without a SIP server.

Pressing HOLD + 5 takes a screenshot of the current LCD display. This is especially helpful when documenting issues, configuration states, or unusual behavior for remote technical support.

Press HOLD + 6 to immediately trigger provisioning based on the device’s configured profile server or GDMS settings. This is useful after changing configuration parameters or deploying multiple phones in bulk.

Press HOLD + 4, and the phone displays a reboot confirmation prompt. Selecting “Yes” restarts the device. This method is often faster than using the Web UI, especially in large hotel rooms lacking local access to a computer.


Telephony Features & Call Handling

Users can press the speaker button to activate hands-free mode at any time. If they wish to switch back, simply lifting the handset transfers audio to the handset automatically. This allows guests to move naturally between private and hands-free conversations.

When the phone is idle, users dial a number first, while the handset is still on the cradle. After entering the number, the user lifts the handset, presses the speaker key, or presses the headset button (if applicable), and the call automatically dials out. This method allows users to check the number before dialing.

After dialing the number, users can press # to immediately send the call. Otherwise, the phone waits briefly and sends it automatically. On GHP63x models, users may also press the “Send” softkey for clearer visual confirmation.

Users can redial by pressing the redial key, by pressing #, or on GHP63x models by selecting the Redial softkey when the handset is off-hook. All methods recall the most recently dialed number for quick repeat calling.

Direct IP Calling allows two phones to communicate without a SIP server. Users dial the target IP using * to represent dots and # to represent colons.
Example: IP 192.168.1.60:5062 becomes 192*168*1*60#5062.
If no port is specified, the phone automatically uses port 5060.

Two conditions are required:

  1. Direct IP Call must be enabled under Phone Settings → Call Settings → Outgoing.
  2. The Use Random Port option under Basic Settings must be set to No.
    These ensure consistent SIP port handling between devices.

On all models, users can answer by picking up the handset or pressing the speaker button.
GHP63x devices also display on-screen softkeys, allowing users to answer by tapping “Answer” on the LCD.

These models are designed specifically for hotel environments, where hotels may require all calls—such as reception, emergency notifications, or wake-up calls—to always ring through. Therefore, call rejection is intentionally disabled.

Yes. GHP63x/W phones include an on-screen “End Call” softkey during ringing, allowing users to reject calls. This added flexibility suits non-hotel environments where call rejection may be needed.

All models support call hold using the physical Hold key.
GHP63x models also offer a Hold softkey on the LCD for a clearer, touchscreen-style interaction. When the call is held, a visual/LED indication confirms the state.

When a second call comes in, pressing the Flash key places the current call on hold and switches to the new call. Pressing Flash again returns to the original call. This makes it easy to toggle between multiple active calls.

Pressing the Mute button toggles microphone muting. A red LED on the button lights up to confirm that the microphone is muted, preventing the user from speaking accidentally.

To perform an attended transfer:

  1. Alice presses Flash/New Call to contact the third party (Carl), placing Bob on hold.
  2. After Carl answers, Alice speaks with him and completes the transfer by hanging up the call or the pressing the transfer softkey (GHP63x).
    If Carl does not answer or rejects the call, Alice may press Flash to return to Bob.

In attended transfer, the user speaks to the third party before transferring.
In blind transfer, the user dials the target number and taps “Transfer → Blind Transfer”, instantly sending the call to the target without waiting for an answer. If the target does not pick up, the call returns to the original user, provided the “Recovery on Blind Transfer” option is enabled.

When enabled in Account → Call Settings → Transfer, the phone automatically pulls the call back to the original user if the blind-transferred call fails. This prevents dropped or lost calls in hotel environments where reliability is essential.

To start a conference:

  1. Alice speaks with Bob.
  2. She presses Flash to call Carl, placing Bob on hold.
  3. After Carl answers, long-pressing Flash joins all three in a conference.
    The Flash key also allows Alice to manage or end individual legs of the conference depending on who hangs up.

If either Bob or Carl hangs up, the conference ends for that party, but the call continues between the remaining participants. If Alice hangs up, all calls in the conference are terminated.


Advanced Functions, Local Feature Codes & User Utilities

When a new voicemail arrives, the phone’s Waiting Message Indicator (WMI) begins to blink green.
On GHP63x/W LCD models, an additional on-screen notification pop-up appears to inform the user.
These visual cues make it easy for guests or staff to know that there is a new voice message awaiting retrieval.

To access voicemail, the user simply presses the voicemail button on the phone.
The system may require the voicemail password, depending on the PBX configuration. After entering the password, users can listen to messages, delete them, or navigate the voicemail menu.

Yes. Administrators or users can disable the notifications by going to:
Phone Settings → Call Settings → Incoming → Disable “Enable Missed Call Notification.”
This removes pop-up alerts for missed calls and voicemail notifications on the LCD display, which can be useful in hospitality environments that want minimalist displays.

Pressing HOLD + 3 instantly opens the contact list on the LCD.
This allows users to quickly view stored numbers and place calls directly from the contact list without navigating through menus.

Sleep Mode forces the LCD screen and LEDs to turn off to conserve energy and maintain a quiet room environment.
The phone automatically wakes the screen when a call comes in or when the user interacts with the device. This mode is ideal for hotel rooms at night.

Users can simply tap or press the mute icon on the LCD to disable Sleep Mode instantly.
This quickly restores normal LCD operation without needing to navigate through additional menus.

From the idle screen, the user presses the mute/dot icon, selects DND, and enables it.
DND mode prevents all incoming calls from ringing the device. This is useful for guests who do not wish to be disturbed or for rooms undergoing maintenance.

Yes. Both modes can be enabled simultaneously.
For example, the screen may be turned off (Sleep Mode) while all incoming calls are silenced (DND), creating a completely quiet environment.

The GHP63x/W supports local feature codes for functions like:

  • Call Forward All: *72 / Disable: *73
  • Call Forward Busy: *90 / Disable: *91
  • Call Forward No Answer: *92 / Disable: *93
  • Anonymous Call Enable: *30 / Disable: *31
  • Anonymous Call Once: *67
  • Anonymous Callee Once: *68
  • Call Waiting Enable: *51 / Disable: *50
  • Call Waiting Once: *71 / Disable: *70

These codes are only used if the SIP server does not override them.

To add a room number, dial:
**766*{room number}
To reset a room number that is already in use, use:
**766*{keypad password}+{room number}#
This allows hotel staff to quickly assign or reassign phones to rooms without needing a Web UI session.

Dialing **82# enables the UCM’s zero-configuration automatic room number assignment.
This means the UCM pushes the configuration to the phone and automatically sets the correct room number as the preferred SIP account, greatly simplifying bulk hotel deployments.
