Basic Usage
To power on or off the handset, press and hold the Power key until the LCD screen turns on (for ON) or the menu appears and you select Power Off (for OFF).
From the handset menu: go to Settings → Network Settings → Wi-Fi, set Wi-Fi to “On”, select the desired SSID, enter the password when prompted. Upon successful connection the Wi-Fi icon will display on the standby screen.
During a call, press the “Hold” soft-key (right programmable key) to put the call on hold. To resume, press the same key when it shows “Resume”.
First call the first party. Press the “Option” (left soft-key), select Conference. Enter the number of the second party and press Dial. Once the third party picks up, the conference is automatically initiated. For the WP816 models it supports 3-way; the WP826 and WP836 allow 4-way.
While in an active call, press the Mute key. A mute icon will appear on the screen indicating that the microphone is muted. Press again to unmute.
For the WP816, insert the battery with the electrodes at the top-right corner; for the WP826 and WP836, insert them at the top-left corner. Then close the back cover (WP836 requires reinstalling the battery door). Always ensure correct alignment to avoid short-circuiting.

Call Operations
The WP8x6 supports earpiece mode, speakerphone mode, and headset mode (via 3.5mm on WP816 or Bluetooth). You can switch between modes during the call using the corresponding keys.
After registering multiple SIP accounts, press the “Account” button on the dialing screen to toggle between available lines. The chosen line’s name will appear on the LCD before dialing
Go to Menu → Call History, select an entry, and press Call. You may also use Options → Edit & Dial to modify the number before calling.
- Earpiece: Press the Dial key or “Answer” softkey.
- Speaker: Press the Speaker key.
- Headset: Press the Dial key or “Answer” using a connected headset.
If Call Waiting is enabled, the WP8x6 will display the incoming call and play a call waiting tone. Press the Dial key, Speaker key, or Answer to take the new call while the first call is placed on hold.
When enabled, the handset automatically answers incoming calls using speaker mode. It can be activated via LCD → Settings → Call Settings → Account x or via Web UI → Accounts → Call Settings.
- Blind Transfer: Press Transfer → Options → Transfer → Blind Transfer, then enter the number.
- Attended Transfer: Press Options → New Call or Attended Transfer, dial the second party, wait until connected, then press Transfer.
Go to Settings → Basic Settings → Key Customization, select a programmable key (e.g., Multi-purpose key), set Mode = Speed Dial, choose the account, enter the number, and save. Long-pressing the digit will place the call.
The WP816 supports 3-way local conferencing, while the WP826 and WP836 support 4-way local conferencing. Calls can also be split or individual members removed.

The phone supports Local Contacts, LDAP Contacts, Online Contacts, and a Block List. To call a contact, go to Menu → Contacts, select the contact, and press the Dial key.
To place a Direct IP Call, simply dial the target phone’s IP address using the keypad in the following format: replace dots with asterisks (e.g., 192*168*1*10). This will use the default SIP port 5060. If you need a different port, append it using #, for example: 192*168*1*10#5062.
To receive Direct IP Calls, Use Random Port must be disabled under Web GUI → Phone Settings → General Settings. Also ensure that Key as Send under Account → Call Settings is set to Disabled, since the phone needs the *** and # keys** to dial IP addresses correctly.
Network & Security
Yes, the WP8x6 series supports roaming including 802.11k/v/r for fast roaming between Wi-Fi access points.
The WP series supports G.729A/B, G.711µ/a-law, G.726, G.722(wide-band), G.723, iLBC, Opus, in- band and out-of-band DTMF (in audio, RFC2833, SIP INFO), VAD, AEC, CNG, PLC, AGC, AJB.

Firmware & Upgrade
Yes — a new setting “Release DHCP On Reboot” allows the device to release its DHCP lease when rebooting (values: 0 = No, 1 = Yes).
The WP8x6 can be upgraded using TFTP, HTTP, HTTPS, FTP, and FTPS. Users must configure a valid server path (IP or FQDN) and select the desired upgrade protocol through the Web GUI or keypad menu.
From the handset, go to Settings → Advanced Settings → System Update.
You can choose “Detection Upgrade” to check for a new firmware version or “Switching Version” to roll back to the previous firmware.
Log into the Web GUI and navigate to Maintenance → Upgrade & Provisioning → Firmware.
Set the upgrade protocol (default is HTTPS), enter the Firmware Server Path, save your settings, and reboot the phone to begin the upgrade.
On boot, the WP8x6 requests configuration files in this order:

If the device-specific file is not found, it falls back to the generic configuration. All file names must be lowercase.
The WP8x6 supports DHCP Option 43 and 66 to override firmware/config servers (enabled by default).

Troubleshooting & Maintenance
Ensure the correct SIP account credentials are entered, NAT traversal settings like STUN or Keep-alive are configured properly, and the network (Wi-Fi) connection is stable. Also check the firmware version in case known registration issues were fixed in updates.
Yes — via the Web GUI under Application → Contacts → Phonebook Management, you can configure “Case Sensitive Search” (0 = No, 1 = Yes).

Check the roaming settings under Wi-Fi Settings → Advanced Settings. Adjust:
- Roaming Threshold (increase for earlier roaming),
- Scan Interval,
- Roaming Mode (Boost Mode for aggressive roaming).
- Poor AP placement or weak signal can also cause disconnections.
Ensure Bluetooth is enabled under Bluetooth Settings, verify both devices are in pairing mode, and make sure the maximum allowed paired devices has not been reached. Restart both devices and retry the pairing.
Select “Can’t Scan” on the handset. The phone will display an SSID you can manually connect to using your mobile browser to complete configuration.
Verify that:
- APs share the same SSID and security type,
- 802.11k/r/v are supported and enabled on the APs,
- Roaming settings (Threshold, Scan Interval, Roaming Mode) are configured correctly under Wi-Fi Advanced Settings.
Check that the portal is compatible with device authentication requirements. The WP8x6 supports captive portals, but credentials must be entered manually when the login page appears after the initial connection attempt.
Verify that Wi-Fi is enabled, the correct SSID is selected, the password is correct, and the AP is in range. Also ensure that MAC filtering or enterprise-level restrictions are not blocking the device.
Check if the call mode is switched to Bluetooth by pressing the headset/Off-hook key during the call. Also confirm that the headset profile supports voice calls (HFP), not just media audio.
Possible causes include:
- Incorrect country code settings under Wi-Fi Settings,
- AP output power limitations,
- Environmental interference.
Try disabling WI-FI power-saving mode under Advanced WI-FI setting for maximum antenna sensitivity.
